Hello from the windy island of Malta!
Resolutions have started and I thought it would be a good time to review an app which has helped me to lose weight and maintain my weight loss, maybe it can help you too.
Just so you know my background. I LIVE FOR FOOD. Food is a great big part of my life and it effects a lot of area’s in a very positive manner. So when it comes to cut down on food, it is very painful mentally and physically.Im 31 years old, married to a person who is passionate about cooking and wanted to shed 12 kilos in 3months. In June 2015 I managed from 77kilos drop to 65 kilos!!! And now January 2016 i weigh 64kilos.
Through the years I tried to lose the kilos by starving myself with ridiculous diets, eating green foods only and working out like a medieval donkey. Results were close to none, weight gain and my mood was increasingly ‘HANGRY’.
Now that you know the base this is the simple answer to weight loss.
Write an objective. Set a target. Find an image of your ideal look. Mentally say to yourself, “i have gone through so many obstacles in life ,is food really bossing me around and controlling me? ”
Target Set. Brain Set.
Now think what are the obvious foods that are not to good for your body. It is no rocket science packaged food is bad. Pasta in large quantities is bad. Meat drenched in a cream sauce is bad. A McDonalds is bad. Basics Set
Downloaded myfitnesspal so i can learn and control my calorie intake. Set my current weight , target weight and ideal month I wanted to achieve it. Religiously inputted each and every food that was going to enter my gob. When I was in doubt i would go through the app and check. I had a cheat meal every week and it could be anything.
Find a crazy friend or follow someone you believe in on any social media so you can be inspired. This is a massive part of my achievement without my bestie pushing me i think i would have quit after the first week.
Find your ideal work out and sacrifice at least 80min, 5 times a week. Running, walking, home work outs ,gym or going for a run with your dog. Whatever it is find something you will do for those months till you reach your target. It is a sacrifice, believe me I know. When I saw the results i was over the moon with pride, joy and self confidence. It is actually worth it.
Once I lost weight I let some of the rules go, dinners out where more enjoyable, i was appreciating more the food I ate, rather then submerge myself with large quantities. I have my occasional run or walk or early home yoga session. The foods that I kept in my life style are:
-Two slices of wholegrain toast with cheese for the morning cause it is lovely and filling
-Carrot and curry soup which tastes incredible for lunch three times a week
-Egg and a banana daily
-Pumpkin seeds as an after dinner snack
-A cube of dark chocolate 75% every evening during the week
-Guacamole once a week at least
Till this day i use myfitnesspal to document my progress and to know how much sugar intake i consume due to genetic predisposition of diabetes. It is a great way to learn about your foods , I recommend it to all my family and friends so give it a try!
